It is with great sadness and much consideration that Desiree Alliance announces the cancellation of our July 2019 conference Transcending Borders: Immigration, Migration, and Sex Work.
Due to FOSTA/SESTA enactments, our leadership made the decision that we cannot put our organization and our attendees at risk. We hope you understand our grave concerns and continue to resist every law that exists to harm sex workers! Keep fighting!
Cris Sardina, Director – Desiree Alliance
Desiree Alliance organizes conferences to provide leadership and create space for sex workers and supporters to come together to advocate for human, labor and civil rights for all workers in the sex industry.
The Desiree Alliance conference is a forum for people who have experience in sex work and sex trade and allies of sex workers. Sex work includes working as an exotic dancer, hustler, webcam model, street-based sex worker, massage worker, escort, prostitute, tantric practitioner, sexological bodyworker, living with the support of a sugar-daddy or a sugar-mama, having sex for housing / food / clothing, drugs, or having sex to get the money needed to survive. Our membership base is made up of current and former sex workers as well as activists that do not identify as sex workers themselves, but advocate for sex worker rights. Desiree Alliance is made up of women, men, LGBTQI persons, transgender persons, herm-identity, Other, hetero, etc., and many of our members are from (non) working class, low and middle income backgrounds.
The Desiree Alliance 2019 conference includes 5 tracks: 1. Academics and Policy 2. Activism 3. Arts, Entertainment and Media 4. Business Development and 5. Harm Reduction and Outreach.
We are open to all sex work related proposals, and specifically welcome all submissions and proposals having to do with these general concepts: sex worker art, culture, and creative endeavors; positive aspects of sex work; harms that result from bad or shortsighted policies; and benefits of current sex worker-friendly policies. Contributors may be sex workers, academics, and anyone else interested in contributing. We are eager to receive proposals from sex workers themselves (you do not have to publicly self-identify), people of color, migrants, and all genders. We are accepting proposals from presenters until April 1st, 2016 . Click Here for applications and instructions.
Desiree Alliance is committed to bring diversity that aims to provide safe spaces for the most marginalized to the least marginalized sex worker, providing education, networking, and alliance-building opportunities regardless of socio-economic status, color, sexuality, sexual identity, culture, class, race, religion, physical or mental capabilities, gender, gender identities, age, size, political beliefs, or immigrant status.
